T minus 39: Help Us Select The Final Track
by GMM on May 7th 2009, at 22:56 CET

Less than 40 days to release.

The global expertise helping us choose between two tracks last week was incredible. We have opinions from the whole planet, every continent. With great respect we now ask you again: Please help us now select the final track for the album.

This time, the final battle is between two instrumental tracks: Blaupunkt vs AMZ 1974.

They are not as similar as Nightswim and Sandtraps. Genre wise I would place them both in the cinematic part of the album, but with different atmosphere and energy.

Blaupunkt

AMZ 1974

What do you think? I am happy for opinions and discussion, post a comment and let me know your thoughts. The comments of the previous battle was fantastic.

If you only want to give a vote, speak with your click:

A note at the end; it was tricky to select which part to preview. As these two are electronic instrumentals with different structures outside the formulaic "song" format, there is no relevant part of them to set up against each other. The previews above are from somewhere in the first half of each track, and are as representative of each track as possible, without giving away too much.

Oh come on! How can AMZ 1974 not be winning? It's multiple times better and more unique than Blaupunkt. Please release AMZ 1974 as a single if it doesen't make the Ugress 4 cut!

I'm kind of sensible to cinematic music, which means Blaupunkt scares the shit out of me... I'm definitely going for AMZ 1974. Love it! Even this small part made me dance silly dances I hope no one saw. Looking forward to hear the whole thing!

#3, by Martin on May 8th 2009, at 01:53
I say Blaupunkt! Part dark, part mysterious, 100 % awesome!

#4, by Christian on May 8th 2009, at 02:00
'AMZ 1974' hands down. Even though it sort of felt like an upbeat version of 'It Was A Great Year'. Especially at the start.

'Blaupunkt' feels like it belongs on a 'Shadow Of The Beat' album. Might be just me though.

Love the fact that you're letting your audience take part in the selection process.

#5, by vonux on May 8th 2009, at 02:05
I like cinematic, and I also like dark, but for me AMZ scores higher in all aspects. Clear winner :)

#6, by Aleksander Mørch on May 8th 2009, at 02:23
AMZ 1974! Definitely.

#7, by jdd on May 8th 2009, at 02:57
Blaupunkt for me! There's a simple complexity in it that I really like. It's really a personal opinion but it speaks to me more than the disco AMZ 1974. I'm really looking forward to that album by the way!

#8, by Jugglerx on May 8th 2009, at 03:16
May end up liking the epicness of Blaupunkt more in it's entirety, but from listening to the samples my favourite was AMZ 1974. Also, go Goofel!

#9, by Trypanosoma on May 8th 2009, at 07:57
I'd say definitely Blaupunkt. Christian is right, it sounds a lot like "It Was A Great Year", and it'd be sad to spoil the one with the other... Also, Blaupunkt is much more interesting because not as straight, I think. Although AMZ 1974 sure has its pros... Blaupunkt for me. :)

#10, by LUringen on May 8th 2009, at 08:35
AMZ1974! It's funky, it's groovy! Kinda big band jazz funkish. I like it!

#11, by sysrq868 on May 8th 2009, at 08:55
AMZ 1974. No contest.

#12, by Sykkelthor on May 8th 2009, at 09:54
AMZ 1974 ftw! No doubt about it, it's totally awesome!

#13, by Johnny B Goode on May 8th 2009, at 09:59
The song title Blaupunkt is great, and I would love to see Igor work the drums on that beat. Still... AMZ 1974 gets my vote. Sounds more like an Ugress-tune, and I think it has "way better" hit potential.

#14, by georgeblunt on May 8th 2009, at 10:02
I am usually a huge fan of dark cinematic beats. So Blaupunkt is an awesome candidate.
But AMZ 1974 is so darn funky, I'll have to give it my vote. I just can't stop dancing. It's too good.

#15, by Del4Mar on May 8th 2009, at 11:17
I must say, I wouldn't mind have both this tracks on the album. difficult choice!

#16, by Zaknafein on May 8th 2009, at 12:38
Hard to say, both tracks were unique in their own way. I'd say blaupunkt though.

#17, by Amo on May 8th 2009, at 14:34
I´m unable to choose one.
However: Amz 1974 is really far more available to general audience - and brings about the happey I wanna dance -feeling (as #14 above puts it). But is that feeling what you really want with//in this album?
My advice: you should pic the song that least (!!) fits the album theme...

AMZ 1974! LETT!

#19, by emet on May 8th 2009, at 17:58
AMZ 1974

#20, by MJarnot on May 8th 2009, at 19:38
Both are so good, and if this is any indication the new album should be spectacular.

I originally thought Blaupunkt was my choice last night, but after listening again today AMZ reminds me too much of the Theme from SWAT that I can't not choose it.

#21, by Tom Ståle Engebretsen on May 8th 2009, at 19:38
AMZ 1974 !!! No Doubt. It`s sounds so catchy and good.

#22, by Tordenflesk on May 8th 2009, at 20:41
Blaupunkt!
AMZ 1974 just sounds to generic for my tastes.

#23, by Jaya on May 8th 2009, at 23:05
My tastes prefer the dark sounds behind Blaupunkt. The sound takes a new direction on early dark tracks like Bad Dreams Come True or the later complexity found in Regression 22. Blaupunkt doesn't sound like a Shadow of the Beat song. It has too many jazzy elements and very little gating. It's dark, which is the main comparison. It definitely still fits into Ugress (as an ending track even more so).

I would miss AMZ 1974 if it didn't make the album, although I'd miss Blaupunkt more. I'd like to see AMZ closer to the beginning or verging on the middle. That's about as presumptuous as it gets, especially without knowing nearly all the tracks nor the schema for the layout. Did I mentioned I like Blaupunkt?

#24, by Juan Medín on May 9th 2009, at 11:24
Wow. Please, let me say it again: wow !! Please, include both !

My vote goes for AMZ 1974. The song is more complex (maybe it's just because of the samples) but I love multilayered complex songs.

#25, by Jean on May 9th 2009, at 12:48
Without a doubt Blaupunkt

#26, by Lars Løvlie on May 9th 2009, at 17:21
They both seem to be great songs, so ... why not include both? If I had to choose I would go for AMS 1974, although I would certainly hope that Blaupunkt would also become available somehow.

#27, by Lars Løvlie on May 9th 2009, at 17:29
AMZ 1974, that is.

#28, by Wouter on May 9th 2009, at 22:59
I usually prefer the darker "minor" (as in opposite to major) side of Ugress. Therefor, the first part of Blaupunkt was awesome. However, i didn't feel it was really going somewhere after that.

AMZ on the other hand was catchy and quite lovely.

So to my own surprise: AMZ 1974 it is.

Still not easy to choose when you don't hear the full song and the concept of the whole album :)

#29, by Kristoffer Hansen on May 10th 2009, at 21:13
Blaupunkt is kind of the Ugress i realy miss so my vote is easily going to that!

#30, by ØL on May 10th 2009, at 21:45
Blaupunkt for me. I can't explain why. For me, this track is Ugress...

And for AMZ 1974. I sure hope I don't step on your toes here Gisle. But isn't that track quite similar to Calvin Harris - Acceptable In The 80's? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWnc1wHeg80 (conscious or not)

#31, by Lars Løvlie on May 11th 2009, at 15:36
That similarity is really superficial and simply in terms of dancyness (that's not a real word, I checked), don't you think?

In my (completely worthless) opinion there's really no similarity at all after listening through both a few times. And in all fairness, one should have really good reasons for throwing that kind of stuff around.

#32, by shabbytech on May 11th 2009, at 20:26
This was a tough one. I'm kicking myself for not giving my vote for AMZ 1974. Being a disco-style-loving guy, AMZ 1974 is a bullseye. But there was something enticing about Blaupunkt, making me want more, and wanting to hear the whole track. AMZ on the other hand was instant and catchy, but it felt more like I knew what the rest of the track was like.

So unless there's a big surprise waiting further out in AMZ 1974, I'd go for Blaupunkt. But please make sure whatever track loses this vote gets out there sometime! Please? :)

#33, by mickeysix on May 11th 2009, at 23:24
AMZ 1974 sounds too much like ugress's song 'harakiri martini' to me. blaupunkt at least sounds original in their catalog. both are good tracks, though.

#34, by Denis_F on May 12th 2009, at 22:19
both are good tracks!! But Blaupunkt is better!!

#35, by Gucguck on May 21st 2009, at 22:37
One difficult choice... Blaupunkt ?

#36, by soukoup himself on May 28th 2009, at 12:25
AMZ 1974 definitly!
It's much better than the other one!!!
