Hello!
I am a composer, musician, artist, mad professor, failed evil genius, whimsical label mogul... only my expert skills in procrastinating is keeping me from total world domination.
Maybe you heard some of my music in a film or commercial or TV program, and you had no idea - my work is often licensed to accompany moving images. Or I am hired to write directly to picture.
As an artist my main project is Ugress which is the site you are watching right now. I run my own label Uncanny Planet, a place for all of my projects and ideas to be realized. You can check out my projects right here on this website. I also have a separate professional website geared towards my composer career at gislemartensmeyer.com.
I am a child of the 80ies, I started out making music on the Commodore 64, and continued up along the typical tracker route of C64, Amiga, PC and then Mac sequencers. I had a breakthru with the Ugress debut album "Resound" in 2002. When I'm not touring or lost in the woods I am located in Bergen, Norway where I spend my time in the Uncanny Laboratory studio. Which is really just a laptop.
I write a lot of different music, but if there is a core I would like to describe it as cinematic sci-fi electronica.
I find the current paradigm shift in music exceptionally interesting, I was a outspoken opponent of DRM. I am very intrigued by sampling and all of its cultural aspects - since deep down everything is sampling - and I have an uncanny faith in technology and the possibilties within. Teh future! I am not fond of piracy, but I have a realistic sense, I see how the world works and why it happens. I am dedicated to working WITH technology, not against it, finding a model that works for everyone and makes piracy irrelevant and unnecessary.
You can read a list of software and a list of hardware I use. For further information I suggest looking at my heroes category to learn about my inspirations, see the laboratory category for continuously project progress, or navigate by tags for a top down approach. There is also a FAQ. If you need to get in touch, that is very easy.
