Autumn is here, KK status update, Ugress 4
by GMM on September 27th 2008, at 20:09 CET

Autumn, my favourite season ever, is on in Bergen. The foliage is tired of photosynthesizers. Right outside my living room window, there is a huge maple tree, going crazy with hue and saturation sliders photoshopping itself.

Week update:

Besides lots of BRAK activity, I spent all week working out the last three songs for episode 9, 10 and 11 of the Kometkameratene show. The show premieres next Saturday, Oct 4th, but I am already working on the next episode batch. The episodes are being recorded early October, so the songs has to be finished by the middle of next week. This time Sjur and me also did most of the lyrics, in difference to the first batch where the lyrics where mostly given.

So far we have 11 episodes, and just yesterday I learned the producers want us to do another batch of 4 songs, after this one is done. We're also working on a separate, official Kometkameratene song for promotional radio and video use. Looks to be a busy autumn.

Some news regarding availability of the songs: We talked to NRK about releasing the episode singles digitally continuously with the airing of each episode, and perhaps doing podcasts or making-of's, they really liked the idea. The only hindrance is the bureaucracy of NRK Aktivum, the "commercial" entity of NRK who owns the songs. We need to make new contracts to get things going.

I also, today, started working on Ugress 4.

There really is no definitive point in time where you start working on an album, I make music all the time, and there was a lot of material ready that did not fit Ugress 3. In any case, today I shipped of a bunch of songs to my partners in crime (Igor and Roar), so we can start the initial selection process and plan the progress. To me, the album process is now officially running.

My original release plan for Ugress 4 was January 2009, but due to the size of the NRK project, things are being shifted into spring 2009. There will be a EPs and singles before the album, these things should start happening pretty soon.

In totally other news, today I saw a female douchebag.

Oh. Pretty pretty please. Podcasts would rock hard. I think you misstyped something in your post tho. NRK Aktivum do not own the songs. We do. The pixels that pay taxes and a licence to use what is called NRK media. :)
I have no problem with the licensing stuff. I actually pay it with joy. Cause NRK produce a great deal of wonderfull stuff both on TV and Radio. I'm getting close to the mid thirties, and I feel pretty much alone on this. All and every other pixel I talk to about the half year fee to NRK, nags about it. Stop nagging, check out whats given to you. And hey, our fav artist of all galaxies get his fair shair of airplay and payment (I hope) for his work trough this wonderfull thing called NRK.

Back to podcasts. One show, uno track and a making of video (if that was tought about from the start) :)

Can't wait for the premiere of KK ...

BTW: I heard a rumor about NRK planning on a musicstore kind of thing. Is this true? NRKs full catalog of music for sale? That would be epic, as long as it's no DRM, easy to purchase and open for all and every gadget produced on Gaia.

A little setback regarding using the songs outside the episodes - Aktivum is REALLY slow and not planning/helping/interested in doing something right now towards immedeate digital distribution. I'm looking into other options but haven't got a lot of time right now unfortunately.

Regarding license, i have some opinions there, no time to type them out, just summarized: The license is ok, BUT it was conceived and systemized long way before even the dinosarus was crucified and quite a lot of stuff has happened since then, rendering the whole compulsory licence deal rather smelly, its (almost) like me claiming I should get paid a yearly sum from every owner of a music playing device, because, you know, they COULD be playing MY music on it. That is not a cool way to do it :) Now, when that is said, I do observe that NRK is state-based and differs from the other channels in many ways, which clouds my argument, and that this is an popular subject for discussion, we should have a few bottles of wine

Music store: I have no idea. That would be great thou!

Consider me the first true member of the I-HATE-YOU-SO-MUCH-RIGHT-NO-AKTIVUM club. And thats that.

I have allot of opinions on allot of things. But reflecting on myself and my discussion skills, I'd say we wont get any way on opinion sharing (we'd probably just end up in a deep agonizing argument instead (as I'm not a huge fan of fistfights)). But wine is great. Might take you up on that if I'm ever again back in the city of immense amount of dark clouds and burning boathouses. OR If you ever get back to Stavern, wich is allot closer for me...

Music store: Just a rumour I heard the other day. I'll ask my source for more information about this later
